Aussie Tucker at Eastin Hotel Penang ~ January 2014 Promotion

With 2014 just around the corner, Eastin Hotel Penang is already prepping up their menu and January 2014 will bring us their Aussie Tucker's menu which gets its inspiration from the country down under :)
With a slightly revamped menu, the coming month will be something to look forward as one will get to savour some Aussie delights which is not always the norm. Well frankly, don't think I have actually seen a fully Aussie themed restaurant menu in Penang so this might be a good thing.

Sigh, not a good sign but I guess in order to maintain the quality of the food, there really isn't much choice. Do read on to see what I think about this Aussie Tucker promotion for January 2014!

German Galore Promotion at Eastin Hotel Penang

Time really flies and before we know it, October is here and for that, I'm also a year older. For the month of October, I guess somehow, everything seems to be about the German festivities and Eastin Hotel Penang through their Swez Brasserie is having a German Galore where they try to bring some German inspired food to the table for all to sample.
Now, I guess most would agree that for the authentic German food, you have to have pork and beer. But since this is a pork free hotel, thats not possible and the chef's here need to be abit more creative to have the taste and authenticity yet keep it pork free. I have to say that this is one challenge which is almost impossible to solve though and its really a good effort by some of the award winning chefs here are doing.
So for the month of October, the buffet and semi buffet will have German inspired dishes to whet ones appetite and I find the buffet interesting as always as you will get to try many different varieties of food versus the semi buffet where the main courses is served full plate.
Its also good to note that the pricing is still the same as stated below. Best part is Maybank, Standard Chartered, OCBC, CIMB and Citibank credit card members are entitled to a 15% discount as well for the dinner menu! So check it out.

Mooncake & International Cuisine Promotion ~ Eastin Hotel Penang September 2013

Its coming into the 8th Month in the Chinese Calendar and as most will know, this is the time where the Mooncake or Mid Autumn Festival is celebrated! This year, it will be on 19th September 2013 and Eastin Hotel Penang in conjunction with their KL peers, have decided to bring in their signature mooncakes for Penangites to savour. To keep things simple, they have prepared only 6 flavors and frankly to me, this is more than enough. Main point is keep it simple and keep the quality high.
The flavors are Red Bean, Jasmine Cheesy Citrus, Low Sugar White Lotus, Precious Black Wolfberry Lotus Paste, Pure Lotus Double Yolk and Supreme Mixed Nuts which range in price from RM17 to RM20 each. The mooncakes are already available and one can call to make reservations in advance to avoid disappointment (+604-6121128 Swez Brasserie)

At the same time from September onwards, Swez Brasserie will be having an International Cuisine theme for their buffet and this features a more global tastes with dishes inspired from Germany, Japan, Mexico and even Thailand. There are a variety of great Appetizers, Main courses and Desserts to choose from and I'm sure diners will find something to their liking. Do check them out!

 6 Flavors of Mooncake!
The mooncakes have a thin crust layer and lots of  filling! The fact that its not very sweet makes it even more delectable! This is the Red Bean and Double Yolk version.

Well its the end of the year of 2012 and the New Year is upon us already. With January just a few days away, Swez Brasserie located at Eastin Hotel Penang is bringing a twist to their monthly special. The theme for January 2013 will be Aussie Tucker where one will get to savor some Australian favorites. Actually at first I was expecting a meat fest but was thoroughly surprise by the amount of seafood that was featured and then it reminded me that Australia also has lots of seafood offering and I'm happy to see that there is lots available to try for their Aussie Tucker theme.

So without ado, do have a look at some of the specials for this January theme and as always, these are in addition to their standard buffet lines ya!

Deepavali Celebrations with children from Ramakrishna Ashrama Penang hosted by Eastin Hotel Penang

Deepavali this year really lighted up for the children from the Ramakrishna Ashrama Penang home when they were treated to an early Deepavali semi buffet by the very courteous staff of Eastin Hotel! I was invited to join Eastin Hotel in one of the CSR activities and I'm really glad I managed to join them this time as I really felt the sincerity as well as the warmth from the staff of Eastin Hotel in the activity.
To start, the staff allocated a nice section of the Swez Brasserie which is the hotels in house restaurant and the semi buffet for the night, there was chicken chop as well as a vegetarian pasta as mains, and of course the wide selection from their buffet line. The children was really enjoying themselves and even the staffs were all happy mingling with the kids. Its great seeing how they all had an enjoyable meal as its not everyday one get to have a nice buffet meal, especially for these kids. You can really feel their excitement and joy at being here, its like striking a lottery for them!
Thus, I would like to commend Eastin Hotel Penang, for putting not just profits on the agenda, but also taking the time and effort to help the needy, and making them feel special on occasions that counts. Do keep up the good work and I'm sure everyone appreciates it! Of course, do keep reading on and see some of the activities, and of course, since there are elements of food here, many foodie pictures as well ya!

The View ~ Equatorial Hotel ~ Alaskan King Crab & Semi buffet

Heehhe... I have to say, how lucky I am to have a friend who would like to buy dinner at The View in Equatorial Hotel Penang. For those that are not familiar, I would say that The View is one of the better fine dining restaurants in Penang.
Typically, there is ala carte and then there are those that comes with a semi buffet.
So whats so special currently at The View, well they have the Alaskan King Crab promotion which is for September 2009 only.
On the menu, we have a choice of just ala carte King Crabs or with the semi buffet. We chose the semi buffet and ended choosing the Grilled King Crab and a King Crab Thermidor.
Their semi buffet is actually very good in my opinion. One of their signature is their salmon marinated with Whisky and herbs. This is just so delicious I had a few helpings.
Then they have a very good spread of salads with various garnishing and sauces.
Next would be their seafood cold platter. Here they have boiled and shelled large prawns, scallops on the shell and very fresh oysters. The thing I like about here is that their oysters never run out :)
After this, is their array of appetizers, where there have fish, beef, vegetables and duck. For this round, their duck was just excellent. The aroma and taste was very very good and I had at least 2 helpings of this dish. The fish was not as nice as I hope as the taste felt too complex. I couldn't try the beef dishes as I can't take beef.
Then their last items are their dessert spread. Alas I forgot to take pictures of their dessert today but their tiramisu and crumble and pretty good.
So for today's dish of the day, the focus is of course on the very famous Alaskan King Crab. For those who watch Discovery Channel's Dealiest Catch, this is it. Now when we first heard about it, I though we would be getting the crabs live and ship to Penang. Sadly, they only import the legs of the crab so thats all we got to taste.
Before we get to the main course, we start with the semi buffet as mentioned above. Then we are served with the soup of the day which happens to be seafood chowder. I would say its nothing to shout about as I feel the soup lack a punch to it. After the soup, we get a Strawberry sorbet (the flavour changes often). This I was told by the staff is to clear our taste buds before we savour the main course. It has a minty taste to it and its something like a icecream toothpaste. Leave your mouth fresh, though probably not white. Now is time for the main course.
First is the King Crab Thermidor. The presentation is always excellent here at The View. The food is nicely placed with just the right amount of garnishing. Below the Crab Thermidor is some mash potato with some vegetables. Now the taste of the crab is very fresh, but I feel that the cheese used in this style of cooking overpowered the freshness of the crab. Also the cheese was abit watery in my opinion but maybe this is how Thermidor is suppose to be?
Rating : 4/5
Next there is the Grilled King Crab. Now the garnishing is the same as the Thermidor and the only difference is in the preparation of the crab. For the grilled version, its just much better to my taste compared to the above. The crab is succulent, taste fresh and done just right! This to me is way better compared to the Thermidor version. Given a chance, this is a definitely must try!
