Little Cottage 2 - Just a simple buffet

I'm sure most foodies in Penang would have heard of Little Cottage before and so happened I was invited for dinner hosted by my wife's friend at Little Cottage 2. This is at the old Waterfall Restaurant and this place is slightly bigger than the premise at Jalan Burma. The nice thing about this place is that they serve buffets on the weekend and they even does special bookings like what I had on this evening. The place was reserved and they have a buffet spread which I find a decent value for money. So for those looking for a nice meal at a good price, check out this place.

Their card so you can have the contacts and hours :)
Some decorations, makes it look like a old cottage :p

Tau fu Fah ~ Jalan Tengah

For those who stay in Bayan Lepas, the mention of Jalan Tengah Flats foodcourt should be of no surprise for good and affordable food. Today I'm sharing about a Tau Fu Fah stall that I really enjoy. The tofu is smooth and flavorful and the soya bean drink with grass jelly (cincau) is another of my favorite. You will sure be surprised with the generous helping of the grass jelly and the fine texture it presents. Do give this one a try for those that enjoys their tau fu fah!
I have been here numerous times and its opens about 10.30 till 1.30pm (depending if there is any left)

Kek Lok Si Temple and Penang Hill

Recently on Deepavali holiday, my family and I took our relatives who came to Penang to Kek Lok Si as well as up to Penang Hill. It was really enjoyable time and moreover, it was not too crowded during this time. Thus just something to share to you all ya.

The Goddess of Mercy Bronze statue at the top of Kek Lok Si. The canopy is currently under construction thus visitors are not allowed to go right up to the status like in the past.
Close up view. Still a sight to behold
This is the original statue made from stone/cement. It was said that during the 1988 Penang Ferry Jetty collapse tragedy, the arm of the Goddess of Mercy here broke in order to prevent more people from perishing. She sacrificed her arm to save all those in need!

For those not familiar with Gurney Plaza, well, there is a place for pork lovers to munch on their favorite type of meat. At first, I thought that they only serve limited pork items but boy was I wrong. Here, they have many great pork dishes that will truly satisfy the taste buds.

Restoran Zi Zai ~ Tradisional Poon Choi & many more!

For those that stay in Paya Terubong in Penang, they might have heard of this place called Restoran Zi Zai. It's located off the main road to the left after the Shell station if you are coming from Relau, and on the right after the fire station for those coming from Air Itam. This restaurant is started by its owner who is also the chef, Mr Tan Hock Chai (You can find him on Facebook). He has started this restaurant for slightly more than 2 years now and he now boast a very special dish which has become the signature of this restaurant, the Poon Choi. So I guess what exactly is Poon Choi? In direct translation, this means a basin or bowl dish, and once you see the photo of it, I'm sure you will agree why its called that.
Basically, to prepare the Poon Choi, the chef needs to prepare all the ingredients individually, and then painstakingly arrange them in the basin and top with a gravy, so that one can savour the layers of flavor and ingredients within. The Poon Choi that can be found here at Restoran Zi Zai boast some very exquisite items, which includes Abalone, Roasted Duck, Braised 3 Layers Pork, Steamed Chicken, Sea Cucumber, Fish Maw, Mushrooms, Hock Chew Fish Balls, Fried Fish Fillets, Sweet & Sour Prawns and vegetables such as Broccoli, Chinese Cabbage, Yam and Sweet Turnip.
There are 2 sizes to choose from, one for 4-5 pax (RM258) and another for 10 pax (RM400). I can definitely say that the recommended serving portion is an understatement, as the Poon Choi holds more than one would imagine. There is just so much items compressed in it that it seems like an endless treasure pot! Moreover, for the price, it includes free flow of steamed white rice and herbal tea. What a great deal indeed. Besides the Poon Choi, there are also many other great dishes on offer and keep reading to find out.

Kafe Soul Kitchen Trattoria ~ not to be miss

I have been to Soul Kitchen for so many times but have always missed out on writing more about this place. I have recommended this place to so many people that I guess I must take some time to finally pen it down. This place is started by Tonio and Michele since mid of 2010 and I guess their popularity has only continued to increase over time. Tonio is from Germany and Michele, KL, and they have decided to bring a little bit of their love and start Soul Kitchen. As you enter this place, or decide to sit outside, I guess you will feel at ease and relax, as they are one of the friendliest of people.
You can just bum around, order some drinks, or if you are hungry, grab some of their very good food. What I like about this place is that almost everything here is self made or of their secret recipe :) And you can see alot of effort goes into preparing it with fine details on every dish served.
On this night, I was there with my family and since we stop by after dinner, we just had their fruit yogurt, a slice of moist chocolate cake and a cup of Latte (coffee with milk). But I did get to take some additional pictures of some of their all time favorite food. But my main goal was not within my grasp tonight, which is their infamous Tiramisu. All I can say is that, in all my many experience eating Tiramisu, I think this is the place that makes it the best. Other than the one which I wrote about while in Copenhagen, Soul Kitchen without a doubt is a place to go to experience what a good Tiramisu is to be. But do be prepared to go early, or it might be sold out, as is the case for me tonight. But I will be back for sure! And then I will write again on it. Enjoy the below ya.

This is how Soul Kitchen looks like at night. Don't think there are many pictures of this place at night so here it is.
The fruitty yogurt. Lots of fresh fruits and their home made yogurt. My daughter loved it. So does my wife.
Some other guest there ordered their mushroom pizza. Doesn't it just looks yummy with the very generous helping of mushrooms and cheese? Also the thin crust makes this even better to have.

Sushi Kitchen, A very different sushi experience

I'm sure many have heard of Sushi Kitchen which is one of the only few (if not only) vegetarian sushi restaurants in Malaysia. Yes that is correct, all the food servings on the menu here are purely vegetarian. The owners here are very environmental conscious and have travelled the world on their cycling trips. They have also been featured in various papers and TV programmes (I saw them being featured on Astro recently).

The restaurant is located in Sungai Ara, Bayan Lepas on the second storey of a shoplot. Its not easily seen as its really low key. But fret not, I have wrote the locations here below later. One will need to ring the door bell before the door opens. So do read on for my wonderful experience in Sushi Kitchen. If you do go there, I'm sure you will too!
