Review of New York Burger @ Irrawaddi Road, Penang

For those in the know, behind the busy road of Burma Road and all, there is an enclave of shops that is slowly becoming a haven for some good food. Today got the opportunity to try out New York Burger which is located along Jalan Irrawaddi and just a couple of shops away from Harvest Inn. Its not a very big place currently but I guess you don't need all nice big tables since the items which they serve is as their name suggest is mainly on Burgers as well as some Pizza and Pasta!
I kinda enjoyed the design and setup of the place. It reminds me of those diners which you see so often in Hollywood movies! Even the tables and lamp design, are so American. But anyway, this place is famous for the charcoal burgers, and surprise surprise, there was even a charcoal pizza! Yeap, I was skeptical but actually it was very well made and tasty. Thus, check out the pictures below and maybe give it a try.

Its Burger Time!
The shop has 2 stories but currently only the lower floor is used!

New York Pizza in Sungai Dua, Penang

There are more and more pizza places that are coming up to rival those from the mainstream such as Pizza Hut or Domino's and New York Pizza is one such startup that seeks to give diners a higher quality pizza at a better value. New York Pizza is currently located in Sg Dua and for those that knows where Infinity Cyber Cafe is will definitely notice this pizza place located on the same row of shops.
The owner of the place seeks to make pizzas which are a step above what is commercially available and each pizza here is hand made to order and they make some pretty impressive thin crust pizzas. Besides pizza's, they are also starting to promote their charcoal bun burger which is again, self made! Do read on to find out more about them.

BeerBQ Bistro at Precinct 10 Penang

I guess I could count my lucky stars that I got a chance to join some other food reviewers to attend a food tasting at BeerBQ Bistro located at Precinct 10, Penang. Its located at the same row as SOHO and Nueve and right at the corner, giving it ample seating area outside the bistro as well.
As I entered the bistro, the lighting is soft from the glows of the chandelier and there was a few tables that were already busy digging into their food and beer of course! Good sign. They have both a ground floor and also an upper sitting area which is ideal for those with a group or large family as it is very cosy and private, just nice for a small gathering or function. For beer lovers, they definitely have a good selection of premium beers from stouts to lager to ale! I'm no beer expert but the owner really knows her hops and barley. So what makes this place different than your typical diner joint that serves beer? I'm sure I lost count how many places actually have similar menus so this is what I feel make them a little bit unique.
As you flip their menu, you will see that they try to pair their food with different beers! Yes, I'm sure you have heard of wine pairing so now in Penang, you have beer pairing! Its not an easy thing to achieve I must say as you really need to understand the many subtle tastes of the different beers with the way the food is cooked. So as I go along in this blog entry, I will be also telling you how it goes with the different beers. As always comments are very welcomed!

Kwong Sang House, Penang

Its never ending the many lovely places to hangout and dine in Penang. Really salute all these creative and happening people for providing us with all their hardwork. So today, from the creators of Behind 50 (which I have wrote about before here and here), they have now started another semi concept cafe/restaurant, this time at Leith Street. It happens that the building in which the cafe now stands used to be a tailors shop and thus, they have adopted this as their concept, a place to chill out and dine at a toilors shop! How interesting ya. My wife, Apple, already has plans to get all her patchwork friends over pretty soon as this place just makes them feel at home. So my family and I decided to give them a try on only their first week of opening, and we were overall pretty happy with the place. Read on to read and see more of this place.

Location : 36, Leith Street,, 10220 Penang, Malaysia
Operating hours : 12noon - 11pm (close on Thursdays)
Contact : +6012-5565509
GPS : N5.420433, E100.333352

Coffee Atelier ~ Not just about Food

Located on Steward Lane where Kopi Cine & Bon Ton used to be, it has now been remodeled and rebranded as Coffee Atelier. Coffee Atelier comprises a few pre-war shop houses from no 47 to 55 and now boast suites for stays, an art gallery, a coffee museum as well as a cafe of course. The proud owners are Lorina and Stefan Gehrig and they are really a very lovely couple who would be more than happy to share with visitors their love for this place (and its food).
The Cafe is aptly named 55 Cafe after the number of the building. How simple and elegant way of naming. Its worthy to note that the building here was built in 1927, and that means its over 80 years old! It's just amazing how these old buildings can withstand the test of time, and after so many events through history, continue to stand tall and proud. So without ado, lets start looking at some of the delicious goodies which is served here.

OK, to keep your suspense abit longer, I start with some general pictures of 55 Cafe and its building facade!
