Zi Zai Restaurants New Menu Coming Soon

Recently I got to sample some of Zi Zai Restaurants new and upcoming menu and its really a fresh change and heart warming experience as it shows that chef Hock Chai is still striving to come up with homely yet creative dishes to whet our appetite. The sampling today included the ever popular Poon Choy or Basin Dish which is now like a staple or house specialty of Zi Zai. And as with all time favorites, the chef continues to refine it to perfection though on this day, I think we were all too excited and forgotten to truly let the broth in the basin come to a boil before devouring it, thus the vegetables at the bottom were abit under cooked.
Anyway, chef definitely took note of that and one of the biggest surprise and highlight was the Budai Jjigae or Korean Army Hat dish! I will save more details about it along with the pictures!
Do enjoy this posting and contact them if you would like to sample these new items. Advise to call in advance to check on the availability. Contact Hock Chai @ +604-826-5713

Yum Yum Poon Choy! Full version @ RM418 which is good for 12 pax. My advice, go for the half portion, and then order more side dishes! This way, you get to sample more different items as the full portion is just huge!

My Second Home Steamboat - Sg Dua Penang

I was recently introduced to a place for steamboat located at the housing area of Sg Dua near USM. This is actually a very spacious home which is now converted to also house a steamboat restaurant. The place is called My Second Home and it really reminds one of their second home, ie, like going to their family home or inlaws, etc. The place as its a bungalow lot, has ample seating place inside as well as outside in the courtyard, and its best to sit outside as it is much cooler and has better ventilation.
The first thing of why I wanted to try this place was that they were using claypots for the steamboat. I actually wanted to know if it would taste better or more so, how do they change soup for you. This steamboat is of the buffet variety as as such, its eat all you can. They currently have a pretty decent promotio at RM16.80 per pax which is pretty good.
Thus my family and I head to My Second Home and we checked out their facebook page to see if they had any promotions, and they did. If we made reservations and arrive before 6pm, we will get a free bowl of birds nest soup if the lady brought their significant other along. Well, this fits us just fine and thus we made reservations and made sure we reached before 6pm.
Oh yeah, and I was mentioning earlier about the question of since its a claypot, how do we change soup, well, you can change it once you finish drinking the soup. HAHA. I found that amusing as I was thinking that they would either change the pot or clear the soup for us. Anyway, do check out the pictures and leave a comment too!

The place! Its a family home turned restaurant

NEW YORK 2013 ~ Times Square!

Finally I'm posting about one of the place which I believe is on every visitors lists to New York City and its no other than Times Square! As I approached Times Square, one will feel as if we have been transported into an advertising world of mega proportions and it just looks out of this world! The signboards are over sized and it stretches every inch of the building walls all the way to the tallest of skyscrappers! Words are just hard to describe the experience as your senses feel as if they are on overdrive here. Thus, I do agree that this place is a must visit for any visitor to New York! Do check out the photos!

Before reaching the middle, the sign boards are more static!
As you get closer, they get animated

Sarkies ~ Carvery Night, E&O Hotel Penang

Sarkies at E&O Hotel Penang is one of the most popular dining place that is well known for its scrumptious buffets. I was lucky enough to be able to sample their weekly themed dinners which is the Carvery Night which is held every Thurday for RM110++ (Adult) and RM48++ (Child). The great thing about the Carvery Night is that it features a whole roasted lamb right over the piping hot BBQ pitt and its served on the spot and carved!
This is a meat lovers heaven as besides the roast lamb, they also feature many more assortment of meats that are slow roasted in the oven to perfection. Talking about meat, the Carvery Night also features the chef showing off their Tandoori cooking skills by having an assortment of Tandoori items, namely chicken, prawns and vegetables! Its really refreshing to get a mix rather than just having the typical Tandoori Chicken alone.
Now besides these extras, Sarkies definitely do not disappoint and continues to serve their ever popular buffet menu each and every day! You will be able to have a much better view of whats on offer from my pictures and I believe this is one of my longest picture post as there is just so much food variety to sample. Frankly, I failed to try every item on the night, not to mention the many cakes and desserts.

Best news, Sarkies is now having a special promotion, just print the voucher below and be entitled to a 30% discount! Yes, its that simple and must not be missed. So what are you waiting for, call the number for reservations!
Highlight of the Carvery Night, whole roasted lamb!

Kurtos Spiroll at Queensbay Mall Penang

One when thinks of snacks or small eats, there are many popular items such as J Co, Dunkin Donuts and others which serves some form of pastries or doughs. Thus, here at Kurtos Spiroll, they also serve a kind of dough which is aptly called chimney cakes of Kurtos Kalacs which is a traditional cake from Hungary. The reason its called chimney cakes is because of it shape and when its removed from the oven, the hot steam is akin to the smoke from the chimney! The Kurtos is sweet and crispy in its original form but here, one can also choose to have different coatings for their Kurtos.
Its also very reasonably priced and its definitely something unique and different compared to your local doughnut shop. As far as I'm aware, this is the first such outlet in Malaysia and thus, Penangites are a lucky bunch to be able to savour this delicacy first.
Do check out the pictures ya

Kurtos Spiroll is located at 3F-01B, Queens Street, Level 3, Queensbay Mall, Penang. They are open daily

Yum Yum Kurtos Kalacs!

NEW YORK 2013 ~ Trinity Church on Broadway

I saw this magnificent looking church while walking along Broadway somewhere near Bowling Green and was amazed by its architecture that I decided to walk in to have a better look. WOW! Totally amazing and the stained glass really gave it that medieval ambiance. The church also still had tombstones outside on its ground and it would have been the perfect postcard photo had the church not be undergoing renovations. Bit still, amazing looking church!

NEW YORK 2013 ~ Statue of Liberty from Battery Park

As the Statue of Liberty was still being renovated due to Hurricane Sandy, I thus did not chose to go there but just went to Battery Park on the South of Manhattan and just snap some photos from there. I was told you can actually see the statue, and I do have proof as the below photos show, but hehe, its really kind of small. I could hardly see it and the photo was taken with a camera at 4x zoom. Thus, for those looking to get a frame filling photo of the Statue of Liberty, my advise, take the cruise and get up close!
This is how it actually looks like to the eye! Its far!

NEW YORK 2013 ~ Bowling Green

I guess besides Wall Street, Bowling Green is probably one of the most popular of tourist spots in lower Manhattan. I'm not talking about going bowling but this is where the famous bull statue is which is so famously photograph the world over. So yes, I became a 100% tourist and also took photos too!
Do check out what the area surrounding this place has to offer.

Me and the bull. So many tourist around I had to share the bull for the photo

NEW YORK 2013 ~ Wall Street

From the port, its time to head to one of the place which I have longed to go to while in New York. The target, Wall Street! It was only about 10 minutes walk away and the weather was slightly cold but at least you do not work up a sweat. I guess its just symbolic that you get to visit one of the biggest financial district in the world and I guess non is as famous as this place!

NEW YORK 2013 ~ South Sea Port

This is the South Sea Port on the Lower South East of Manhattan. Its a very nice place with some big sailing ships. Too bad the ships were not having their mast up else it would really look like pirate ships. You can get cruises around Manhattan, to the Statue of Liberty or just around Manhattan itself. Its just a nice windy place to enjoy the view and the many ferries going pass this place! Enjoy the photos

Thats the big ship!
