Aussie Tucker Semi Buffet January 2013 Promotion ~ Swez Brasserie

Well its the end of the year of 2012 and the New Year is upon us already. With January just a few days away, Swez Brasserie located at Eastin Hotel Penang is bringing a twist to their monthly special. The theme for January 2013 will be Aussie Tucker where one will get to savor some Australian favorites. Actually at first I was expecting a meat fest but was thoroughly surprise by the amount of seafood that was featured and then it reminded me that Australia also has lots of seafood offering and I'm happy to see that there is lots available to try for their Aussie Tucker theme.

So without ado, do have a look at some of the specials for this January theme and as always, these are in addition to their standard buffet lines ya!

 In the foreground, Uluru Calamari Salad which is a great appetizer. The calamari is so tender and done just right. I like how the walnut sauce holds the salad together with some mixture of fresh greens and fruits. In the background is another appetizer, Sesame Carrot while there is a better picture of one of the main course which is the Macadamia Crusted Fish Fillet.
 This is a preview of the dessert, a deconstructed Pavlova on the left and Lamington on the right
  Aussie Swiss Chicken. This comprised a grilled chicken drumstick that has been marinated and then its topped with a slice of ham and melted cheese. I find the chicken to be very moist and juicy.
This is the Chiko Roll which is an appetizer. Its similar to a fried popiah but the filling is of that of lamb meat! It was so good with the aroma of the fine pieces of lamb .giving it such a nice gamey taste. Yes, its great for those who like lamb, but it can be abit overpowering for those that do not prefer meat with a gamey taste to it. It was paired with a lemon grass dressing on the side which is similar to sambal. Interesting combination, but it works.
Another appetizer is the Aussie Oyster Soup. When its serve, they will not serve the oyster with the shell on as below photo. I think you wouldn't want to have the shell in the soup too.

This is how it looks like. The fresh oyster is put in the soup when its serve. Make sure to squeeze a good amount of lemon juice into the soup to give it the added fresh taste ya.
Onion Monaquesques is more like an onion dip which is serve with nachos and pita bread. The onion is cooked with herbs such as bay leaves and even though you can have this as a main course, I would rather have this as an appetizer instead though. But I guess if you are looking for a vegetarian mains, this can't go wrong too.
And the last mains is the Macadamia Crusted Fish Fillet. Here you get a thick slab of fish and in this case, they use sea bass and I find the crust really delicious. As for the fish, I'm wondering if we can tell the chef to under cook it just abit to keep the juices in a little bit more. But its always difficult for fish as not all slices are of the same thickness and meat. But its great for fish lovers
This was my plate, to sample abit of everything. The sesame carrot was really a surprised thumbs up with grilled baby carrot that has been marinated in sesame oil as well
And finally the desserts. OK the macaroon was a bonus by the chefs but the Pavlova and Lamington are the real highlights. I find the Lamingtons appetizing but did not fully enjoyed the Pavlova. Don't get me wrong but I'm never a big fan of Western desserts.

Overall, its a great theme and the buffets at Eastin Hotel Penang is really value for money. The Aussie Tucker is available during lunch, hi-tea and dinner at Swez Brasserie for the whole month of January. The details as below :
